66-year-old artisan dedicated decades to eggshell porcelain in China's "porcelain capital"

NANCHANG, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The eggshell porcelain is renowned for its papery and translucent porcelain body. Its production involves over 40 meticulous hand-made steps. In Jingdezhen, China's "porcelain capital," 66-year-old artisan Lu Jiande has dedicated more than four decades to mastering this demanding craft. Since he began learning it in 1980, Lu has continuously refined his techniques. As a result, he has raised the success rate of his pieces from a merely 1 percent to the current 30 to 40 percent. His expertise has also earned him international recognition. Lu has repeatedly broken the Guinness World Record for the "largest diameter" of eggshell porcelain bowls, and his works are now housed in museums across China and around the world.
