SHANGHAI, China - Many Chinese companies are pressing their employees to boycott iPhones and Apple products and buy Huawei units instead due to the tension between Washington and Beijing over the arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou.
Chinese firms are now penalizing employees that are caught using Apple iPhones.
Menpad is one of the first Chinese companies who encouraged the boycott. Menpad imposes a fine of 100% the market price in the next 3 years to employees who still use iPhones. The company also rewards workers that purchase ZTE or Huawei phones, giving them 15% subsidy.
Menpad also expressed that they'll cease buying American products like computers, office equipment, and even cars. They will also double the commission of their employees should they successfully sell Menpad products to the US.
Apple has already filed a request for the Chinese court to reconsider the ruling that bans the sale of Apple iPhone models in China.
